Square Turns iPhone, iPad or Android Cell Phone Into A Credit/Debit Card Acceptance Terminal

iPhone with Square App and Card Reader

If you have a very small business, or occasionally need to take credit/debit cards, but the monthly cost of a merchant service is not feasible, then the Square application could be for you. Square, a California company, came up with an application that runs on an iPhone, iPad or Android cell phone that enables them to accept payments from debit or credit cards. Users can type in the card numbers or swipe the stripe through a free card reader that plugs into the earphone jack of the device.

There are no monthly fees associated with the service, but there is a transaction fee. The fee for processing the typed in transactions is higher than the card swipes. To find out details on the fees go to the processing fees section of the Square website.

Square is an easy application to sign up for and also has a log in so it is convenient to track transactions, deposits and other account activity. Any bank account can be designated as the deposit location for processed transactions. Customers can actually sign fro their transaction on the device with their finger and can get a confirmation of their payment via email or text message.

This is an easy way to add anywhere credit/debit card acceptance for business or personal purposes. There are restrictions on what type of activity the application can be use for and they are found here on the Square website in their user agreement
